KEEPING HEALTHY FOODS/SNACKS IN YOUR DORM

Hey lovies,

This post is little different from what I normally used to. After experiencing the struggle of living in a traditional dorm, I thought this post would come in handy to all my fellow college students who live in dorms and have no access to a kitchen. I am going to list a few healthy food items you can keep in your dorm in times of hunger. Enjoy!

1. Fresh Fruits and Vegetables:
-Banana, Apples, Oranges, Grapes, Strawberries, Carrots, Cucumber.
-These are great for a quick healthy breakfast or even snacking. Fruits go so well with oatmeal and cereal.

-Also most fruits and vegetables stay fresh in dorm rooms for a long time if they are well preserved.

2. Cereal, Protein Bar and Oatmeal:
- Most dorm rooms are provided with microwaves, therefore you can easily enjoy a warm oatmeal with fruits during the cold weather
- Cereals are great too!
- Protein bars are great quick meal substitutes

3. Low Dairy Products
- low fat milk, low fat yogurt, low fat string cheese
- Low fat dairy products because full fat dairy products induces weight gain

4. Nuts and Seeds
- Excellent sources of protein and healthy, monounsaturated fats.
-Easy to store in a college dorm room because they don’t require refrigeration and have a long shelf-life.
- "They help keep you full for a long period of time and are easy to take with you when you’re heading to class or on the go." ( http://healthyeating.sfgate.com)

5. Hummus
- Easy to store in dorms
- Great as dips and spread
- They make your snacks healthy and tasty!
